    Group Description

In Eastern Orthodox Christianity, ethics is crucial to living a spiritual life. The belief that humans are created in the image of God and are called to participate in the divine nature through living with virtue and excellence is at the core of Orthodox ethics. Loving God and one’s neighbor as oneself is a fundamental commandment, and it requires selfless dedication to the betterment of others. Humility, repentance, and forgiveness are equally vital, as are traits like compassion, honesty, and self-control. Orthodox ethics encourages individuals to cultivate these virtues to live a fulfilling spiritual life.

Orthodox Christian ethics revolve around the notion that humans are called to emulate Christ, who exemplifies moral superiority. Moral decisions aren’t mere rule-following behaviors but rather are guided by prayer, scripture, and teachings of the Church, as well as the advice of spiritual mentors. Additionally, the community holds paramount importance in Orthodox ethics, as moral decisions are made within the context of the Church and its traditions. This community functions as a support system, providing individuals with accountability and encouragement to lead a virtuous and ethical life.

In Eastern Orthodoxy, ethics is a cornerstone of the spiritual lifestyle. It’s based on the idea that we’re all created in God’s image and called to participate in the divine nature. This guides our ethical decisions, which revolve around a love for God and others, teachings from the Church, and the development of virtues. And we don’t go at it alone – we rely on a supportive community to keep us accountable. So it’s not just following rules, but rather a holistic and communal approach to living righteously.
