    Group Description

Soteriology is like a roadmap to salvation in Christian theology. But when it comes to Eastern Orthodox beliefs, the journey to salvation means becoming more like God. It’s not just about being forgiven but also about transforming oneself through faith in Christ and sacraments like baptism and confession. Think of it as a process of deification.

The journey of spiritual growth and transformation, known as sanctification, is a continuous process that involves the development of virtues like love, humility, and obedience. It is also about receiving the Holy Spirit, which empowers believers to lead a life of holiness and virtue. The ultimate goal of sanctification is becoming like Christ, participating fully in the divine life, and achieving deification. The Orthodox Church emphasizes that salvation is not purely individualistic but rather a communal and cosmic experience. Christ’s saving work extends beyond humans to the entire created order, and the Church plays a vital role in this work of salvation by showing love, mercy, and justice.

The Eastern Orthodox view on salvation centers around faith, sacraments, and spiritual progress. It’s all about transformation, not just justification, and aims to bring believers closer to the divine. The end goal? Achieving theosis and experiencing life in all its divine glory.
