Practical theology isn’t just about discussing abstract theological concepts – it’s about putting those same theories into action in the real world. When it comes to the Orthodox Church, this means drawing upon centuries of tradition and the wisdom of predecessors to deal with modern issues. This includes everything from ethical dilemmas to social justice concerns, all with a mind toward promoting spiritual growth and understanding. The Orthodox Church acknowledges that proper understanding comes from living out one’s beliefs, which is why practical theology is an essential and meaningful discipline.
The Eastern Orthodox Church boasts a rich history of practical theology led by influential theologians and saints, including St. John Chrysostom, St. Basil the Great, and St. Gregory Palamas.
