    Group Description

Exploring the Bible is not just an intellectual endeavor. It’s a way of connecting with the Divine for the Eastern Orthodox Christian tradition. They believe that while human hands wrote the book, it was inspired by the Holy Spirit, making it a central text that reveals God’s self-revelation to humanity. This holy book is a unified whole of the Orthodox Church, consisting of the Old and New Testaments. It is interpreted within the context of their tradition and liturgical life.

Eastern Orthodox Christianity holds a unique perspective on the authority of the Bible, as it is viewed as just one part of a larger tradition of revelation. The Church’s liturgy, the writings of Church Fathers, and decisions made by Church councils are all considered equally important. This approach, known as the “hermeneutic of continuity,” highlights the significance of interpreting the Bible within the context of Church tradition and teaching, prioritizing the Church’s teachings throughout history.

The Orthodox Church values the Holy Spirit’s role in understanding the Bible. According to their beliefs, the Holy Spirit guides the Church’s interpretation of the text and helps reveal its true meaning to believers. For the Eastern Orthodox faith, the Bible is studied as an inspired text that reveals God’s self-revelation to humanity, and is interpreted within the context of the Church’s traditions and liturgical practices.
